Last night Doug was out and I went to brace myself for the tedious evening bedtime routine. I put him in the swing with a pacifier at 6:50pm. Usually he cries after 5 minutes, then we let him cry a short while to wear him down a bit, hold him and resettle him and start over (as many times as it takes). Our books say he should be naturally wanting to go to bed earlier now around 6!!
He didn't make a peep, I checked in after 10 minutes, sound asleep until 1:30am! It's getting better. I napped with him without the swing yesterday too, just laid him on his back next to me with a brief pacifier session and then he slept over an hour.
His mornings are so cheerful and chatty once he's woken us up. He just babbles and squeals for about 10 minutes, then is mostly quiet the rest of the day. He's been really good for outings, even if he's being a bear at home. The change of scenery distracts him and he does really well. We've been going to the farmer's market every Saturday while Doug works. And we've been doing all sorts of errands; groceries, gas, Target, etc. Today we got out of the house to find me a dress to wear for our upcoming family photo. He did great while I tried on 7 dresses! Not one dress I own will zip up or button up these days :(
Yup, first family photo is on Monday morning in Central Park! We want to make a record of our time here with the city in the background, should be neat for Rowan to look back, since he won't remember living here. We're using the same great photographer that Doug used for all of his AnyWhen photos last year. We have haircuts for tomorrow to try and rid ourselves of the disheveled new parent look we have right now. Rowan just has to be his cute self and we just need to attempt a good pose to keep him from looking like the sweetest baby Jabba the Hutt.
In other news, he's started to be quite the older lady attraction on our park walks! When he's in the front-faced carrier, we're stopped (more like attacked) by older women who grab his pudgy legs and coo at him. Maybe because they are New Yorkers, they are very direct! They literally walk right in front of us and go right for him, like we're not even there. I think it's kind of funny and it doesn't bother me that much because Rowan seems to smile and like it just fine right now...Doug's not so sure.
