Keep shoveling
So, you can see by the strain on his face how wide he's opening his jaw to eat. Every bite is like this whether he ate 4 hours or half an hour ago. He opens so wide his chin rests on his highchair tray. The other element of this is his legs doing aerobics underneath, his hands firmly planted on each side of the tray..unless he's pounding the tray demanding more.

Beginning of December
6 month appointment (at 7 months)
Little guy is doing great, backed down under the 90th % now at 20.4 lbs and 27.5."
Dr. Kathleen Joy is Rowan's new doctor (click on her name to read about her). She seemed great and more personable than his last doctor. He got his last shots for a while and reacted with the most upset ever! I'll never do an afternoon appointment again. He's already easily eating 3 regular meals which she said would be a 9 month goal, and said we can add in trying to drink a little water in a sipper cup which we do already, though she says he doesn't really need the extra water as long as he's nursing. We can start to try finger foods to work on his pincher grasp by 9 months. She recommended a cheerio at a time and we can add a little meat if we want...not with the cheerio :)
I've tried some baby food "recipes," that never really crossed my mind until coming across them. He likes most the single fruits and veggies, but this week we added into the freezer store: Broccoli-kale-banana, lentil stew with carrot and onion, parsnip-carrot-pear-fig, and cranberry-apple-pear-cinnamon, all big hits!
This week I did another baby clothes purge of 6-9 months..too small and added in 12-18 mo...loose and comfy. If we have anothe,r one day, sure hope it's another boy to make use of the oodles of clothes, eh who am I kidding, I'd put a baby girl in trucks and airplanes. I even picked up some thick knit "tights" for him to act as long johns. I told Doug we're doing it European style, they are all about baby boy tights.
Of course I just picked up plain red girls tights, shhhh!
Rowan is going through vocal phases quickly. Right around Thanksgiving he was doing lots of high pitched squeals and shrieks, that has tapered off to grizzly growls and grunts like when he was a tiny baby. He's doing a bit of babbling. We're encouraging new consonants, but he's pretty much getting ready to flatter grandpa Bob, with his bobobobobobobob-ing. I've also been trying to add on -bra-ann at the end to help him sing the beach boys, but it's not working. His other fun thing right now is doing a whispered P sound- "Puh" with a little poof of air, very cute.
You've probably heard about our unconventional sleeping arrangement by now. After 6 months of trying we're giving up on the crib. We could squeeze a nap out of him once and a while, but bedtime was unbearable and epic where he eventually wound up with him in the swing or our bed after we were exhausted. Well the swing has been a crutch for some time so we finally put a twin size mattress pad on the floor and he's much happier and so are we. It's been 2 weeks of improvement with no swing. He's never rolled out and if he did he'd roll 2 inches down onto a rug. It's quite cozy. I can nurse him there without moving him which had always but a major problem with him. Last night he he slept through the night for the first time since September back in New York!
