This week...

We had many messy dinners OUTSIDE!

We decided we'd rather go in the pool fully clothed than in the swimsuit.

Sand continues to be sprinkled outside the box.
Sand and sunblock is a messy combo.

Highchairs are fun since he can get his feet on the table, I was too slow for the photo.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend, circa 1978

We had our friends Susan and Al Ferguson over on Saturday afternoon for lunch. They brought their 2 year-old Finley and their newborn Maeve, and we had a great time on this "play date." Al is a enthusiast for all things vintage, and he brought over an old polaroid camera that he used to take this photo. We love how it turned out! Just like "back in the day."

Hankerchief, Please...

This is pretty much what the last 4 days have looked like....Horrible nights, crying with all the snot draining, crying with all the snot wiping, all my shirts look like this.

Post B-day and Dr. appointment

Head to toe swim gear...no sunburn here!

Wow, what a tummy!

Little bugger is teasing me here!! What if I put this in my mouth Mom?! Just kidding, I know I'm not supposed to!
Digging

Super baby and blooming roses
At 1 year he is 30 inches and 22.12 lbs. (our home scale has him higher at 24, he squirmed in the scale at the doctor office, I think they are off since that would mean he gained only 1 pound in 3 months) He is down to the 75th% from his highest at almost 100th% at 2 months. He got a scratch on the forehead from the nurse trying to measure his head when he wouldn't stop whooshing back and forth. He fought getting all of his measurements taken, though he was much nicer for the Dr. he even smiled and babbled for her AND tried to inspect her teeth, very flattering from this little guy. 2 shots and a blood draw earned a breathless shriek, but he made no complaints after we left the office and got a donut treat. His leg is still bruised 4 days later, he doesn't care.

Happy 1st Birthday!

Quadruple Grandparent birthday pizza party on the 8th.
Saturday- presents and cake, with a little outdoor time between showers.
Wow,  love the tissue paper.
Presents!! Bath toys and towel, puzzle, sand toys, farm books, Sleepy Elmo, cute outfits, vintage pull toys, shorts, tractor, hand made dancing BigFoot... AND a sandbox. Lucky boy!!
Let's dig in.
Hmmmm, not bad
It was a slow start to the cake nibbling...slow and steady was his strategy for his first cake.
Filling the sandbox made by Grandpop George.

The latest game

Why bother baking a birthday cake when he loves mud pies so much??  He's passionate about sorting and piling pebbles right now. He's been doing it all week and this session was at least half an hour in pebble management.

Rowan Rollercoaster

Happy Rowan! He just got this b-day gift from Aunt Heather. He splashed, he batted at the floaters and picked grass and threw it in. He loves water and one of less pleasant duties the last couple months has been removal from the tub. He fussed and protested. stiffened up and had fits, lots of fun for us....Now he's coming out of the tub fairly smoothly after several experiments in the routine. However.....now he throws a fit as we try to take him off the potty chair. After 2 books, 10 books, makes no difference.

Potty related, we have 2 books we read to him as we're trying to get him in the spirit for actual training to come. This first one he has joyful anticipation for the last page  (with real flushing action!)

The 2nd one (which is way more adorable in general) I noticed that he has been getting really fussy over. Doug has been at rehearsals a few nights this week and I told him that Rowan literally broke down during the non-Sesame Street book! We had Doug read it tonight for our experiment because I get paranoid that I make R. cry.....he started bawling on the same page for Doug as me!!

Our sensitive little guy....

Happy Potty Book
